Extensive research in Japan has investigated the jaw/spine connection through animal studies. In one of the
animal studies, the bite was reduced on one side on dogs. This lead to the development
of severe scoliosis
on the opposite side of the body in both legs and in the back. The dogs also developed autonomic nervous
system abnormalities that manifested as lacrimation (tears), hair loss, etc.
Basic brain research shows that there are second order trigeminal neurons that descend through the spinal
chord and medidate the ascending signal. Also, it is known that proprioceptive fibers from the
mescenphalic nucleus which travel with the third division of the trigeminal nerve, have the ability to
modulate muscle tone throughout the body.
